YOKOGAWA AIP571

Product Name Vnet/IP Bus Interface Module (Dual Bus, BUS2 Configuration)

Product Overview The AIP571 is a Vnet/IP communication interface card designed for Yokogawa ProSafe-RS Safety Control Station (SCS) and CENTUM VP distributed control systems. It provides the physical and data-link layer connection between the safety/control CPU and the Vnet/IP control network, supporting dual-redundant bus operation for high-availability process automation.

Description

Technical Specifications Network Standard: Vnet/IP (IEEE 802.3u 100BASE-TX compatible) Ports: Two independent RJ-45 Ethernet ports (BUS1 and BUS2) Transmission Rate: 1 Gbps full-duplex (Vnet/IP generation 2) Topology: Star, dual-star, or ring with redundant switches Transmission Distance: Up to 100 m per copper segment (Category 5e/6 cable) Bus Configuration: BUS2 denotes dual-bus redundant interface Mounting: Plug-in card for SSC50D / SSC60D / CP451 processor rack Power Consumption: Derived from rack backplane, approximately 8 W Operating Temperature: 0 °C to 55 °C Storage Temperature: -40 °C to 70 °C Humidity: 5 % to 95 % RH, non-condensing Vibration Resistance: 2 G, 10 Hz to 500 Hz per IEC 60068-2-6 EMC: EN 61000-6-2 / EN 61000-6-4 industrial immunity

Functional Features Dual-port redundant Vnet/IP connection with automatic failover Deterministic real-time communication with token-passing media access Integrated network status LEDs for link, activity, and bus health Hot-swap capability in redundant processor configurations Time synchronization via Vnet/IP for system-wide event ordering Support for up to 256 control stations on a single Vnet/IP domain

Application Scenarios Safety instrumented systems (SIS) in oil & gas, refining, petrochemical, and power generation Dual-bus control networks requiring zero single-point-of-failure Integrated DCS + SIS architectures where safety and basic process control share the Vnet/IP backbone

Working Principle The module encapsulates safety and process data into Vnet/IP frames, transmits them over two physically independent Ethernet buses, and performs frame verification, sequence checking, and bus arbitration. When one bus experiences a link loss or excessive error rate, the controller transparently switches to the healthy bus without interrupting control execution.

Installation Requirements Install only in designated AIP571 slot of Yokogawa SCS or FCS rack Use shielded Category 5e or higher twisted-pair cable with grounded RJ-45 connectors Route BUS1 and BUS2 cables through separate cable trays to maintain physical diversity Observe ESD handling procedures; wear wrist strap during insertion Confirm rack power is stable before hot-insertion

Usage Precautions Do not connect standard office Ethernet switches directly to Vnet/IP ports; use Yokogawa-approved layer-2 switches Both BUS1 and BUS2 must be connected and active in redundant deployments Firmware version must match the CPU and engineering station release Replace module only with identical revision to preserve safety certification integrity Keep firmware and configuration backups before any maintenance activity
