ProSoft MVI94-MCM-MHI

Product Introduction: The MVI94-MCM-MHI is a single-width 1794 Flex I/O module that gives a Flex processor Modbus RTU/ASCII master or slave capability plus a MHI (Mitsubishi Heavy Industries) serial drive-highway driver, allowing direct polling of MHI-spec cranes, hoists and legacy drive controllers without an external protocol converter. Data moves asynchronously between the Flex backplane and the serial field, driven by simple ladder logic.

Description
Technical Specifications:
  • Platform: Allen-Bradley 1794 Flex I/O, single slot in adapter base
  • Serial ports: PRT1 = Mini-DIN RS-232 (config/debug, hardware handshake); PRT2 = Mini-DIN RS-232/422/485 jumper-selectable, 500 V optical isolation from backplane
  • Protocols: Modbus RTU, Modbus ASCII, MHI highway emulation
  • Modbus roles: Master and/or Slave simultaneously
  • Function codes: 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 15, 16
  • Register space: up to 5000 16-bit registers user-mapped
  • Backplane load: 20 mA @ 5 VDC
  • External power: 12–24 VDC, 340–170 mA
  • Operating temperature: 0 °C to +55 °C
  • Storage: -40 °C to +85 °C
  • Humidity: 5%–95% non-condensing
  • Shock/vibration: 30 g / 5 g @ 10–150 Hz
  • LEDs: Module, Backplane Transfer, Application, Serial Activity, Error
  • Dimensions: 94 × 94 × 69 mm (H×W×D) in base
  • Certifications: CE, RoHS
Functional Features: Enron Modbus floating-point variant supported; user-defined command queue; MHI driver speaks legacy crane/drive telegraph frames; no PLC scan penalty—transfer is backgrounded; AOI-free, pure ladder block-transfer style.
Application Scenarios: Shipyard crane controls with MHI drives; pulp-and-paper machine sections; mining hoists; offshore platform skids where Flex I/O talks to mixed Modbus/MHI field devices.
Structure & Material: 1794-style molded housing, Mini-DIN serial connectors, optical isolators on PRT2, FR4, no Ethernet.
Working Principle: Flex processor writes command/response blocks into module data file via BT (block transfer) logic; module serializes them onto RS-485 as Modbus or MHI frames, collects replies, posts them back into the data file; ladder scans the file at its own pace.
Installation Requirements: 12–24 VDC external supply mandatory (backplane 5 V only powers logic); set PRT2 jumpers before power; 500 V isolation means shield can tie to panel ground; Flex adapter must support asynchronous BT module.
Usage Notes: MHI mode is not standard Modbus—only use with actual Mitsubishi Heavy drive highway or emulated endpoints; baud and parity must match oldest device on trunk; 55 °C max means no direct sun exposure in tropical sites.
