Working Principle
Normal current flows through closed contacts. Overload heating bends the bimetal strip until it releases the latch and opens the breaker. Short-circuit current creates a magnetic field in the coil that instantly pulls the trip bar, opening contacts and quenching the arc in the arc chute.
Installation Requirements
Install in a Square D I-Line panel or compatible enclosure with correct torque values. Use listed lugs for conductor size. Verify breaker frame, pole count and AIC against system short-circuit calculations. Connect proper ground and bonding conductors.
Usage Precautions
Energize only after confirming de-energized installation. Do not reset repeatedly against a sustained fault. Test optional shunt, auxiliary and alarm functions during commissioning. Maintain clearance for heat dissipation and arc-fault coordination.
