Honeywell 2MLR-CPUH/T

Product Description:
The 2MLR-CPUH/T is a redundant hot-standby rack CPU module for the Honeywell Experion PKS system. It serves as the primary processing engine for a control rack, executing control strategies, managing I/O, handling alarms, and providing operator interface services. The “H” denotes hot-standby redundancy, and the “T” indicates the type designation for triple-redundant or specific configuration variant within the Experion architecture. This module operates in a redundant pair with a matching backup CPU for zero-downtime failover.

Functional Features:

  • Redundant Processing: Automatic failover in <1 second with zero data loss
  • FTE (Fault Tolerant Ethernet): Dual-redundant Ethernet backbone for I/O communication
  • Control Execution: Executes C300 control strategies, sequences, and advanced regulatory control
  • Alarm Management: Full Experion alarm philosophy processing (shelving, suppression, prioritization)
  • Historian: Built-in real-time and historical data collection
  • Operator Interface: Drives Experion HMIs and consoles
  • Cybersecurity: Supports Honeywell Secure Media Exchange (SME) and role-based access control

Structural Features:

  • Form Factor: Rack-mountable controller, 19-inch rack, 4U height
  • Backplane: Experion FTE fault-tolerant backplane
  • Front Panel: System status LEDs (RUN, FAULT, REDUNDANCY, COMM), USB port
  • Connectors: Ethernet RJ-45, Serial DB-9, SFP fiber ports (optional)
  • Cooling: Internal fan with redundant power

Working Principle:

The CPU runs the Experion PKS control kernel which continuously scans I/O via the FTE network, executes control algorithms in a deterministic scan cycle (typically 100 ms to 1 second), processes alarms, and updates the operator interface. In redundant mode, the backup CPU mirrors all data in real-time via a dedicated redundancy link. Upon primary CPU failure, the backup assumes control seamlessly within 1 second.

Applicable Industries:

  • Oil & Gas (refining, LNG, offshore platforms)
  • Chemical & Petrochemical
  • Power Generation (thermal, nuclear, combined cycle)
  • Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
  • Pulp & Paper
  • Mining & Minerals

Installation Requirements:

  • Install in 19-inch EIA standard rack with proper grounding
  • Connect to FTE redundant network (dual Ethernet paths)
  • Provide UPS-backed power (minimum 30 minutes ride-through)
  • Maintain 100 mm clearance above and below for airflow
  • Ground chassis to plant earth ground (<1 Ω)

Usage Precautions:

  • Never operate without a redundant pair in SIL 3 applications
  • Perform firmware updates only via Honeywell approved procedure
  • Do not remove redundancy cable while system is running
  • Replace SSD only with Honeywell-approved part number
  • Monitor CPU utilization; keep below 70% for headroom
