Working Principle:

The module measures the millivolt signal generated by the thermocouple junction. The internal 24-bit sigma-delta ADC converts the microvolt-level signal to a digital value. The cold junction sensor (precision RTD) measures the terminal block temperature. The processor applies NIST polynomial linearization to convert the thermocouple voltage + CJC voltage into an accurate temperature reading.

Installation Requirements:

  • Use thermocouple extension wire of the same type as the sensor
  • Maintain isothermal termination block for accurate CJC
  • Use shielded twisted-pair cable; ground shield at one end only
  • Ensure no ground loops between field and control room
  • Maintain 25 mm ventilation clearance

Usage Precautions:

  • Do not mix thermocouple types on the same module unless configured correctly
  • Verify polarity of thermocouple wires (positive/negative)
  • Do not exceed 1372°C for Type K; respect individual type limits
  • Calibrate using Emerson AMS Suite or dry-block calibrator
  • Replace module if diagnostic LED indicates persistent fault
