Working Principle:
The positioner receives a 4-20 mA DC control signal from the controller. The current drives an electromagnetic force motor that generates a force proportional to the signal. This force is balanced against a feedback force from the valve stem position via a mechanical linkage. Any imbalance moves the flapper relative to the nozzle, changing the backpressure, which is amplified by the pneumatic relay to drive the actuator until the valve reaches the commanded position. This closed-loop force-balance ensures the valve position matches the control signal precisely.
Advantages:
- High accuracy with ±1% of span performance
- Fast response time under 1 second
- Robust construction suitable for harsh industrial environments
- Simple calibration with front-panel zero and span adjustments
- Wide supply pressure tolerance from 14 to 40 psi
- Compatible with I/A Series DCS systems
Applicable Industries:
- Oil and Gas
- Petrochemical
- Chemical Processing
- Power Generation
- Pulp and Paper
- Water and Wastewater Treatment
- Mining and Minerals
Installation Requirements:
- Mount directly on the valve actuator using standard mounting brackets
- Ensure air supply is clean, dry, and oil-free
- Position wiring conduit entry at the bottom or side of the housing
- Maintain minimum 6 inches (150 mm) clearance around the positioner for heat dissipation
Usage Notes:
- Verify input signal range matches positioner calibration (4-20 mA)
- Perform zero and span calibration after installation
- Inspect air supply filter/regulator regularly
- Do not exceed maximum supply pressure of 40 psi (2.8 bar)
