Functional Highlights
– Slot-1 mandatory – every 3500 rack requires one TDI; auto-discovers and addresses all monitor modules
– Dual redundancy – two TDIs can be fitted in TMR racks; automatic switch-over <5 ms without data loss
– Hot-swappable – insertion/extraction under full rack power without interrupting protection or process monitoring
– Transient capture – programmable pre- and post-trigger buffers (up to 16 000 samples) catch fast events such as blade loss, surge or gear tooth breakage
– Time sync – accepts IRIG-B, PTP or SNTP to timestamp events to ±1 ms across entire plant network
– Event historian – stores >50 000 system events, alarm logs and operator actions with 1 ms resolution
– Firmware flash – field-upgradeable via Ethernet in <3 min; rollback image stored for safety
– TMR ready – special firmware performs 2-out-of-3 channel voting when used in triple-modular-redundant racks
– Cyber-secure – role-based access, SSL/TLS encryption, syslog forwarding to SIEM platforms
Application Scenarios
– Steam & gas turbine TSI cabinets – interfaces rack data to GE Mark VIe, Siemens SPPA-T3000 or Emerson Ovation DCS
– Offshore platform centrifugal compressors – redundant fiber-Ethernet rings send vibration data to onshore System 1 servers
– LNG refrigeration trains – 102.4 kHz sampling captures gear-mesh harmonics for early tooth-fault detection
– Ethylene hyper-compressors – transient buffers store start-up and surge events for root-cause analysis
– Cross-country pipeline pump stations – IRIG-B time sync aligns multiple racks along 500 km right-of-way
– Steel mill blast-furnace blowers – Zone-2 certification allows direct mounting in hazardous junction boxes
– Wind-turbine test stands – high-speed Modbus TCP feeds real-time data to LabVIEW or MATLAB for modal analysis
– Nuclear feed-water pumps – TMR configuration meets IEEE 338 requirements for safety-related monitoring
Installation & Maintenance
Slides into slot 1 of any 3500 rack; captive screws provide chassis earth bond. Front LEDs indicate module healthy, network link, serial traffic and transient-capture status. RJ-45 and DB-9 front connectors accept standard Cat-5e and RS-232 cables; no separate power wiring is required. Onboard diagnostics report fan life, supply margin and internal temperature over the same Ethernet link, enabling fully remote health dashboards. Module replacement takes <1 min; all rack parameters remain stored non-volatilely on every monitor, so no re-configuration is necessary.
Compatibility
Backward- and forward-compatible with every 3500 monitor produced since 1998 (3500/40M, 3500/42M, 3500/44M, 3500/45, 3500/46M, 3500/50, 3500/60, 3500/62, 3500/70M, 3500/72M, 3500/77M, 3500/90, 3500/92, 3500/93). Supported by System 1 v6.5 onward and by third-party OPC UA, Modbus and DNP3 clients.
