Functional Highlights
–
Slot-1 mandatory – every 3500 rack requires one RIM; occupies the first position adjacent to power supplies
–
Dual-Ethernet option – copper and fiber ports support redundant plant networks and remote diagnostics rooms
–
Auto-discovery – identifies and assigns addresses to every monitor module, eliminating manual DIP-switch setting
–
Time sync – accepts IRIG-B or SNTP to timestamp events to ±1 ms across the entire rack
–
Event historian – stores up to 50 000 system events and 1 000 alarm transient records locally
–
Hot-pluggable – insertion/extraction under rack power without interrupting protection or process monitoring
–
Firmware flash – field-upgradeable via Ethernet in <3 min without removing the module
–
TMR ready – special TMR firmware performs 2-out-of-3 channel comparison when used in triple-modular-redundant racks
Application Scenarios
– Steam and gas turbine TSI cabinets – interfaces rack data to plant DCS and System 1 diagnostic servers in real time
– Offshore platform centrifugal compressors – redundant Ethernet rings send vibration and temperature data to onshore support centers
– LNG refrigeration trains – high-speed Modbus/TCP links provide machinery health data to DeltaV and Experion DCS
– Petrochemical ethylene crackers – local RS-232 port allows technician laptop connection during turnarounds without shutting down the rack
– Steel mill blast-furnace blowers – Zone 2 certification permits direct installation in hazardous junction boxes
– Pipeline pump stations – IRIG-B time synchronization aligns multiple racks along a 500 km right-of-way for accurate event sequencing
– Wind-turbine test cells – 1 000 Hz streaming rate captures transient torsional events during blade-pitch step tests
Installation & Maintenance
Slides into slot 1 of any 3500 rack; captive screws provide chassis earth bond. Dual front LEDs indicate module healthy, network activity and serial traffic. RJ-45 and DB-9 front connectors accept standard Cat-5e and RS-232 cables; no separate power wiring is required. Predictive fan-life and temperature data from the rack are accessible via the same Ethernet link, enabling remote health dashboards. Module replacement takes <1 min with no configuration recovery needed because all rack parameters are stored non-volatilely on every monitor.
Compatibility
Backward- and forward-compatible with all 3500 monitors (3500/40M, 3500/42M, 3500/44M, 3500/45, 3500/46M, 3500/50, 3500/60, 3500/62, 3500/70M, 3500/72M, 3500/77M, 3500/90, 3500/92, 3500/93). Works with legacy TDIX, DDIX and current TDI communication processors. Supports System 1 v6.5 and later, as well as third-party OPC, Modbus and DNP3 clients.
