Working Principle:
The positioner receives a 4–20 mA signal from the DCS. The internal microprocessor compares the valve stem position (measured by an LVDT or potentiometer) to the desired position (from the 4–20 mA signal). If there is a deviation, the positioner adjusts the pneumatic output pressure to the actuator to move the valve to the correct position. The feedback loop runs at 50 Hz, ensuring precise control. HART communication allows remote reading of diagnostic data (supply pressure, stroke, friction, etc.).

Installation Requirements:

• Air supply: clean, dry, 1.4–7.0 bar, filtered to 40 µm
• Signal cable: shielded twisted pair, 1.5 mm², max 1000 m
• Ground the positioner housing to plant ground
• Set stroke limits before commissioning (use front-panel buttons)

Usage Precautions:

• Do not exceed 7.0 bar supply pressure
• Do not operate in ambient temperatures above +80°C without heat shield
• Perform auto-calibration after every 12 months
• Replace diaphragm seals every 3 years in corrosive service
• Do not disassemble the ex-proof housing — return to Metso/Neles for repair
• Use only Metso-approved HART communicator for configuration
