Structural Characteristics
Open control board with power semiconductors, trimpot section, armature/field/power/control terminal section, optional auxiliary heatsink, signal isolator and RFI filter provisions.
Working Principle
AC input is rectified and regulated by phase-controlled SCRs. The control circuit compares speed command, armature current feedback and IR-compensation voltage to adjust SCR firing angle. Output DC armature voltage increases or decreases according to the acceleration setting and current limit.
Installation Requirements
Mount in a ventilated enclosure with insulation clearances. Fuse the AC line and DC armature per KB recommendations. Install the correct plug-in horsepower resistor. Connect the motor field before armature on shunt motors. Provide grounding and surge protection.
Usage Precautions
Set current limit before initial run. Never defeat Auto Inhibit or external inhibit. Operate within the 45-degree-Celsius ambient rating or apply heatsink derating. Keep flammable materials away from open-board components.
