Honeywell C7012E1104

Product Name

Solid State Ultraviolet Flame Detector (Purple Peeper)

Product Description

The C7012E1104 is a dynamic self-checking ultraviolet flame detector designed for use with Honeywell Flame Safeguard controls and amplifiers. It senses ultraviolet radiation generated by combustion of gas, oil, coal or other hydrocarbon-based fuels, and delivers reliable flame presence signals to combustion control systems.

Functional Features

  • Dynamic self-checking function with oscillating shutter that interrupts UV radiation to verify sensor tube integrity
  • High-sensitivity UV sensing tube that detects faint flame emissions accurately
  • Solid-state electronic design with no moving parts except the self-check shutter
  • Built-in protective heat block in the mounting flange
  • Color-coded leadwires for simplified electrical connection

Application Scenarios

  • Gas, oil or coal fired burners in industrial boilers
  • Power generation combustion systems
  • Petrochemical furnace and heater monitoring
  • Industrial process heating systems
  • Commercial and industrial combustion safety control systems

Working Principle

The detector contains an ultraviolet sensing tube that responds to the UV wavelengths emitted by flames. An oscillating shutter periodically blocks the UV radiation path; the system monitors the sensor output during both blocked and unblocked states to confirm proper sensor operation. When flame is present, the sensor generates a proportional electrical signal that is transmitted to the flame signal amplifier for processing and burner control.

Installation Requirements

  • Mount horizontally, vertically or at any intermediate angle to achieve optimal line-of-sight to the flame
  • Install on a sight pipe welded to the combustion chamber wall; cut the pipe to the shortest practical length
  • Use threaded conduit fitting for electrical connection; follow NEC Class 1 wiring standards
  • Ensure the viewing window remains free of soot, dirt or condensation to maintain detection accuracy
  • For redundant configurations, wire two units in parallel to reduce nuisance shutdowns

Usage Precautions

  • Do not expose the viewing window to direct mechanical impact or thermal shock
  • Periodically clean the quartz viewing window to prevent signal attenuation from contamination
  • Do not operate beyond the specified ambient temperature range
  • Ensure proper grounding to avoid electrical interference with flame detection circuits
  • When used with dynamic self-check amplifiers, verify compatibility with R7247C, R7747C or R7847C series amplifiers
