Key Features
High-Capacity Data Exchange: Each module supports exchanging up to 128 bytes of input/output data with every connected Genius device per bus scan . This enables efficient, real-time control of complex field devices with multiple data points.
Global Data Broadcasting: Supports the transmission and reception of global data, with up to 128 bytes for each operation, facilitating efficient data sharing across the network .
Flexible System Scalability: A single RX3i system can accommodate up to eight IC694BEM331 modules, providing significant capacity for large-scale distributed I/O networks .
Comprehensive Diagnostic Indicators: Front-panel LEDs provide immediate visual status. The OK LED illuminates solid green during normal operation, while the COM LED indicates active communication; a blinking COM LED signals intermittent bus errors .
Hot-Swap Support: The module can be replaced without powering down the entire system, significantly reducing maintenance downtime . In Max-ON redundancy systems, re-insertion of a module into the Master controller temporarily disables its outputs until the next role transition .
Robust Noise Immunity: Provides high electrical isolation (2000V) and common mode rejection (1500V transient) to ensure stable operation in harsh industrial environments .
Versatile Connectivity Options: Connects to various GE Fanuc platforms including Series 90-30 PLCs, Series Six PLCs, and the full range of Genius family devices .
Application Scenarios
Process Automation: Integrating temperature, pressure, and flow transmitters in distributed control systems (DCS) for oil refineries, chemical plants, and gas processing facilities .
Discrete Manufacturing: Connecting sensor and actuator blocks on production lines, enabling centralized control in automotive and packaging applications.
Remote I/O Networks: Managing geographically dispersed I/O stations such as remote terminal units (RTUs) in water and wastewater treatment plants or wellhead monitoring sites .
Power Generation and Energy Management: Integrating balance-of-plant I/O devices in power stations for controlling valves, pumps, and motor starters.
Legacy System Integration: Connecting modern RX3i controllers to existing GE Series 90-30 installations or Genius I/O blocks, facilitating phased system migrations and retrofits.
Building and Infrastructure: Enabling communication in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems within large commercial and industrial facilities .
Installation and Configuration Notes
The IC694BEM331 is configured using Proficy Machine Edition software and requires a minimum CPU firmware version of 2.9 . Proper bus termination is essential; install 75, 100, 120, or 150-ohm resistors at both ends of the bus . Use shielded, twisted-pair cabling for all bus connections . When a module is removed and re-inserted in a Max-ON redundancy system that is operating as the Master, its outputs remain disabled until the next Backup-to-Master transition .
