- Strict power and signal ground separation design on PCB to eliminate crosstalk between two serial channels
Working Principle
- Module obtains stable dual-rail +5 V / +12 V DC power supply from Mark VIe rack backplane; isolated power circuit supplies independent operating voltage for two RS-485 serial transceivers.
- Communicates with Mark VIe main CPU module through proprietary internal rack bus to receive upper-level data transmission instructions and upload field serial equipment feedback data.
- Two isolated RS-485 channels operate in redundant backup mode simultaneously; the system automatically switches data transmission to standby channel once the active channel generates communication error.
- External field auxiliary sensors, actuators and small slave PLC equipment connect to screw-clamp terminal block via shielded twisted-pair serial cables; module converts internal parallel bus data to serial differential signal for long-distance transmission.
- Built-in hardware error detection circuit monitors signal parity error, frame loss and short-circuit fault in real time, triggers front panel fault LED alarm and uploads fault diagnostic code to main CPU.
- Supports full configuration via GE ToolboxST engineering software, including baud rate, communication protocol, station address and redundancy working mode parameter setting.
Core Function Features
- Dual hardware redundant isolated RS-485 channels realize uninterrupted serial communication during single channel line fault
- 2.5 kV channel-to-backplane galvanic isolation completely eliminates ground loop noise between rack control system and field devices
- Multi-protocol compatibility supporting Modbus RTU and GE exclusive SRTP serial communication for turbine auxiliary equipment
- Built-in surge and overvoltage protection circuit on all signal terminals to resist on-site lightning and wiring short-circuit damage
- Removable screw terminal block simplifies cabinet wiring maintenance and equipment replacement operation
- Real-time channel fault diagnosis function, automatically record fault timestamp and upload diagnostic information to main control CPU
- Complete matching with Mark VIe redundant turbine control system, supports hot-swap replacement under rack powered state
Advantage Highlights
- Hardware dual-channel redundancy design avoids single serial cable damage leading to auxiliary equipment communication loss, improving turbine control system safety
- High isolation voltage effectively suppresses industrial field common-mode interference, ensuring long-distance serial data transmission accuracy
- Compact single-slot 3U design saves limited rack expansion slots for other analog/digital I/O modules
- Integrated surge protection eliminates need for external signal lightning protection terminals, reducing cabinet wiring complexity
- Full hot-swap support allows maintenance without shutting down turbine control rack power supply, minimizing equipment downtime
- Unified ToolboxST software configuration platform consistent with all Mark VIe series modules, reducing engineer learning cost
Applicable Industries
Gas Turbine Power Generation Control, Steam Turbine Auxiliary Equipment Communication, Combined Cycle Power Plant DCS System, Cogeneration Industrial Turbine Control, Waste Heat Recovery Power Unit Monitoring, Power Plant Boiler Auxiliary Control System
Installation Requirements
- Insert module into any vacant 3U expansion slot of Mark VIe standard control rack, lock ejector screw with torque 0.6 N·m
- Field serial wiring must adopt shielded twisted-pair cable; connect cable shielding layer to cabinet ground terminal at single end only
- Separate serial communication cables from high-voltage AC power cables with minimum 20 cm isolation clearance
- Tighten all terminal block wiring screws to specified 0.6 N·m torque to prevent loose contact under equipment vibration
- Maintain 10 mm vertical clearance between adjacent rack modules for natural heat dissipation
- Verify rack backplane power supply voltage stays within ±5% rated tolerance before powering on the module
Operation & Maintenance Precautions
- Cut off field serial channel external wiring power before disassembling terminal block to avoid live wiring short circuit
- Wear ESD wrist strap during module plug-in and disassembly operations to protect internal transceiver chips
- Inspect terminal block wiring tightness every 6 months to eliminate wire loosening caused by thermal cycle expansion and contraction
- Do not apply voltage exceeding ±15 V to RS-485 signal terminals; permanent transceiver chip burnout will occur
- When configuring redundancy mode via ToolboxST software, complete channel communication test after parameter download
- Clean terminal block contact pins with isopropyl alcohol annually to remove oxidation and dust accumulation
- Replace damaged modules only with original GE C-RS-401-00-0 spare parts to guarantee Mark VIe system certification validity
