Working Principle:
Serial data received from field devices is buffered in the module’s FPGA, converted to Ovation backbone protocol, and transmitted over the redundant A/B bus to the controller. Outbound data follows the reverse path. On A bus failure, automatic switchover to B bus occurs within 10 ms.

Installation Requirements:

  • Install in Ovation I/O rack (chassis slot or DIN rail)
  • RS-485: use shielded twisted pair, max 1200 m at 9600 bps, termination resistor required at last device
  • RS-232: use shielded cable, max 15 m (recommended)
  • Ground shield at controller end only (single-point grounding)
  • Do not daisy-chain RS-485 devices; use star topology

Usage Notes:

  • RS-485 termination resistor (120 Ω) must be enabled on the last device in the network
  • Baud rate must match all devices on the bus
  • Configuration via Emerson DeltaV / Ovation Workstation software
  • Replace only with Emerson 5X00497G01 or approved equivalent
  • Do not connect RS-232 and RS-485 ports to the same device simultaneously
