Honeywell MC-550MCU

Product Name
Honeywell MC-550 Hot Runner Temperature Controller
Product Introduction
The MC-550 temperature controller is a microprocessor-based hot runner control module used in plastic injection molding. It regulates heater zones through PID or DPID control and processes thermocouple feedback to maintain stable manifold temperatures.

Functional Features
  • PID and DPID auto tuning with self-tuning routine
  • Soft-start function to prevent heater surge after standby
  • High and low deviation alarms with automatic error display
  • Independent zone setpoint, process value and output indication
  • Selectable K or J thermocouple input per configuration
Application Scenarios
  • Injection molding hot runner manifolds
  • Single-zone and multi-zone nozzle heating
  • Engineering plastic, PET and medical grade molding
  • Laboratory melt temperature control benches
  • Die and tool heating systems requiring closed-loop PID
Performance Parameters
  • 15 A output supports standard cartridge and coil heaters
  • PWM switching provides stable average power with low thermal overshoot
  • Thermocouple sampling delivers repeatable zone temperature control
  • Auto tuning reduces manual gain adjustment during mold changeover
Material And Construction
  • Molded industrial enclosure with front operator window
  • PCB with power relay or solid-state output stage
  • Thermocouple input terminals with cold-junction compensation
  • Panel module handle and fixing screws for cabinet mounting
Working Principle
The controller reads thermocouple voltage, converts it to process temperature and compares the value with the setpoint. The control algorithm calculates PID output and generates PWM pulses to the heater relay or solid-state switch. Soft-start limits initial current, auto-tuning determines optimum gain values, and alarm logic disconnects or warns when deviation exceeds limits.
Installation Requirements
  • Mount in ventilated panel with clearance for heat dissipation
  • Provide independent AC supply separated from power heaters where specified
  • Use K or J thermocouple extension wire with proper polarity and shielding
  • Size heater load within 15 A and total wattage limits
  • Ground the controller chassis and thermocouple shield to control earth
Usage Precautions
  • Do not operate outside 85 V to 250 V supply range
  • Confirm thermocouple type matches menu configuration before run
  • Check heater insulation resistance before energizing new molds
  • Use soft-start after long standby to extend heater life
  • Reset alarms only after identifying sensor or load faults
