Functional Features
Native Siemens MPI connection supports direct communication with S7-300, S7-400 and S7-200 MPI ports. The COM port supports multiple serial standards for Modbus RTU, SUCONET and additional PLC drivers. Flash-based firmware stores standard and alternative driver images. Front LEDs provide immediate diagnosis of bus activity and transmission failure. Onboard RS485 termination can be enabled for network end nodes.
Application Scenarios
Packaging lines, printing machines, textile machinery, water-treatment pump and fan control, material handling systems, assembly lines, HVAC panels, and retrofit projects requiring Eaton XV HMI integration with Siemens, Modbus or SUCONET controllers.
Performance Parameters
MPI port delivers deterministic S7 data polling at 19.2 kbps or 187.5 kbps. COM port performance depends on selected physical layer, protocol driver and cable length. RS485 communication supports long-distance serial links with shielded cable; RS232 is suitable for short-distance point-to-point service. SUCONET operation supports up to 375 kbps on compliant Eaton Moeller networks.
Material Composition
Printed circuit board with surface-mount communication components, DB9 connector brackets, plastic insulator housing, metal shielding elements where required, and LED lenses for status indication.
Structural Characteristics
Plug-in internal card with two DB9 interface positions, MPI transceiver section, configurable COM transceiver section, flash memory for drivers, LED indicators, jumper or software-selectable termination, and backplane power connector for XV panel installation.
Working Principle
The HMI processor sends tag and screen communication requests to the MPB2-TP firmware. The COM section converts signals to RS232, RS422, RS485 or TTY and encodes the selected protocol such as Modbus RTU or SUCONET. The MPI section converts HMI requests to Siemens MPI frames over RS485 and exchanges data with the connected S7 PLC. Received responses are returned to the HMI application for display, logging and control.
Installation Requirements
Install the card in the designated internal communication slot of the XV HMI. Power down the panel before insertion or removal. Connect the MPI DB9 cable to the Siemens PLC MPI port using correct pin assignment. Configure the COM port physical standard, protocol, station address and baud rate in the HMI communication driver. Enable RS485 termination only at network end nodes. Use shielded serial cables with continuous ground connection through metal connectors.
Usage Precautions
Do not operate the card outside the HMI enclosure specification. Verify MPI and COM ports are not assigned to conflicting protocols on the same physical link. Replace firmware only with Eaton-approved BCI driver files. Inspect DB9 contacts and cable shielding regularly. Keep the panel power disconnected during card replacement to prevent backplane damage.
