Working Principle

PCI bus interface communicates with host industrial PC memory space to read/write process data buffers. On-board netX ASIC executes DeviceNet master communication stack logic, manages bus timing, cyclic input/output data polling, and acyclic parameter message exchange with all connected slave nodes. Isolated transceiver circuit electrically separates PC internal logic from field wiring to suppress transient voltage surges originating from factory field devices. On-board diagnostic logic continuously monitors bus voltage, node response timing, and signal integrity to report network faults to host PC via register status flags.

Installation Requirements

  1. Insert card into empty 32-bit PCI expansion slot inside industrial rack PC chassis; secure metal bracket with mounting screw
  2. Connect DeviceNet trunk cable to 5-pin terminal block following standard DeviceNet pin assignment (V+, V-, CAN_H, CAN_L, Shield)
  3. Install 121 Ω line termination resistor at both physical endpoints of DeviceNet trunk cable
  4. Earth connect cable shield at single cabinet grounding point only to avoid ground loop currents
  5. Install official Hilscher cifX driver software on host operating system prior to network configuration

Usage Precautions

  1. Do not mix DeviceNet bus cable lengths exceeding maximum topology limits for selected baud rate
  2. Power down industrial PC fully before inserting/removing PCI interface card
  3. Verify fieldbus wiring polarity before activating bus communication to prevent transceiver circuit burnout
  4. Do not install card in PC chassis without proper airflow cooling exceeding +60 °C ambient temperature
