Working Principle
High frequency current in probe coil generates alternating magnetic field. Metallic shaft surface induces eddy currents. These react on coil impedance. Gap change alters impedance linearly. CON021 drives the oscillator, demodulates, linearizes, and outputs proportional voltage.
Application Scenarios
-
Steam and gas turbine shaft vibration
-
Centrifugal compressor radial and axial motion
-
Gearbox shaft displacement
-
Pump and motor alignment monitoring
-
Thrust bearing wear and oil film thickness
-
Integrated into Emerson MMS 3000 / MMS 6000, AMS 6500, VM600
Installation Requirements
-
Mount probe normal to machined shaft surface
-
Maintain minimum shaft diameter per EPRO table (typically ≥ 40 mm for 8 mm probe)
-
Avoid shaft keyways, oil holes, and welds in measuring window
-
Torque probe to specified value, do not over-tighten
-
Initial gap set so converter output sits at calibrated zero point
-
CON021 on DIN rail inside cabinet, shielded cable grounded at one end
Usage Notes
-
Never mix 5 mm, 8 mm, 11 mm probes with wrong converter
-
Calibrate with 42CrMo4 block; other steels need correction curve
-
Cable extension beyond 5 m increases noise
-
Re-verify zero gap after major overhaul
