Working Principle

After insertion into industrial PC PCI slot, the host operating system assigns memory and interrupt resources via plug-and-play enumeration. The onboard 133 MHz microcontroller initializes the PROFIBUS protocol stack independently of the host CPU. All user-defined data read/write tags are stored in the 4 MB onboard DRAM buffer. The optical isolation circuit separates PC digital logic ground from fieldbus RS485 transmission line ground to suppress industrial electromagnetic ground loop interference. The microcontroller executes cyclic PROFIBUS bus polling, encodes/decodes bus frame data, and transfers requested tag values to host PC memory via PCI bus on demand. Bus fault detection circuits continuously sample RS485 line differential voltage to identify short-circuit, open-circuit or un-terminated bus conditions and upload fault status to host software.
